Who is Eligible?

We grant wishes to children who are 3 to 18 years of age, who are medically eligible and live within the state of California.

Who can refer a child?

The heart of our mission would be impossible to accomplish without referrals. It is through caring people that we are able to give a child the power to dream. Most children are referred by medical staff working in Children’s and University Hospitals.

What can a child wish for?

Every child’s wish is as unique as the child making the request. Children’s wishes will usually fall into one of these areas:

“I wish to be...”

“I wish to meet...”

I wish to go...”

I wish to have...”

How much does granting a wish cost?

The average cost of a wish is $3,000.

How much of the money donated goes to granting wishes?

The administrative costs for Wish Upon a Star average about 10 percent. This means the lion’s share of your donation goes directly to the granting of wishes.

Is the family included in the wish?

Every attempt is made to include the child’s immediate family in the wish.

How many wishes have been granted?

Wish Upon a Star has granted over 1,800 wishes in our 25 years of service.

What are your sources of funding?

Wish Upon a Star is strictly funded through donations. We rely entirely on the private and corporate giving of people in our community.
